Hallo everyone! Mei here again for another post for the most highly anticipated concert of ONE OK ROCK here in Manila on January 19, 2016.

For today’s entry (and several subsequent entries in the near future), I will share to you guys a short interview I did with some ONE OK ROCK fans I have met because of this concert. Since the announcement, I have been active in the Philippines’ ONE OK ROCK fan group and in both Twitter and IG and to my surprise, I have become friends with some of them! Its a bit overwhelming for me to be a part of this fanbase because its feels like we’re one big family. Truly, ONE OK ROCK brings fans closer through their music. However, what did get me wondering is how ONE OK ROCK changed their lives and their expectations for the upcoming concert.

Considering this, I decided to interview some of these fans I have met and talk to them about their thoughts about ONE OK ROCK before they see them live for the first time in Manila. For this entry, I interviewed fellow PR holder, blogger (owner of My Random Reality by Kimberly Gill) and pharmacist Kimberly Gill.

Hailing from Davao, Kim is a prominent face in the fan group, sharing recent IG photos from the band’s individual accounts and shares pages about ONE OK ROCK. I met Kim through the PR threads and like magic, we immediately clicked (Especially if you say T-O-R-U). Here is our short conversation/interview about ONE OK ROCK

Question 1: Where did you first hear about ONE OK ROCK, where and how?

Well, the very first time I heard about OOR was last 2012 when I watched the RK movie. I was just passive at that time. When I heard the song ‘The Beginning’, the very first thing that came into my mind was ‘Oh! This song’s cool’. But at that time, I wasn’t a die hard fan YET

Question 2: Since you said that, how exactly did you become such a die hard fan? Any song in particular that got you hooked to the band’s music?

When I watched the final RK movie last January, I heard the song “Heartache” and I swear! I cried for no reason!! I said to myself “I have to look out for this band like NOW! and it started there

Question 3: Do you have any merch related to OOR due to your growing fandom?

Yes, merch? Yeah, I have that Toru shirt from their 35xxxv tour in Japan, Taka’s tarot shirt and the 35XXXV shirt :) I also have 2 wrist bands and the XXXV bonnet. I’ll buy more soon hahaha XD

Question 4: I asked for the music, I asked for the merch, now I shall ask… any particular band member you like in the band? And why?

Yes, I like Toru. Well, yeah, he IS handsome, but there’s more to that, you know? It’s not just about the looks. I am actually grateful for his existence, because if it wasn’t for him, OOR won’t be here now. We wouldn’t be able to listen to their amazing songs. I respect him a lot, not just the band’s leader, but also as an artist. He’s really talented. <:3

Question 5: Do you think ONE OK ROCK has changed your life?

To be honest, YES! They did change my life. People around me wouldn’t be able to understand it, but I noticed i became more passionate in everything that I do every day.

Question 6: Now lets get on to the concert, what was your initial reaction when it was declared that ONE OK ROCK will indeed make a concert in the country? Any expectations now that you gotten tickets for this event?

I was really happy!!! I can’t sleep for days hahaha I told myself “I HAVE TO MEET THEM!!!!” it’s just because I wanna thank them for playing such good music. LMAO. And as for expectations, well, I just wanna hear them play some of my fave songs like “Deeper Deeper” and Kanzen Kankaku Dreamer”

Question 7: Final question, if the guys of ONE OK ROCK would be able to read this interview, what do you want to say to them? Don’t be shy to say what you want!!

hahaha okay, here it goes then:
“Hi ONE OK ROCK! I can’t wait to see you guys perform here in the Philippines! You have no idea how long we Filipino fans waited for this! Anyways guys, I won’t make this message long, but I’d just like to say this: Thank you for making such amazing music and I love you guys so so much! No matter what happens, I’ll always support you all throughout \m/ Keep rockin’ those stages all over the world and I do pray that your music will reach out to all 8 billion people who are existing right now.

  1. I’m a 31 year-old single mom and I’ll be seeing these guys perform in Manila next year. Their music just speaks to me and whenever I’m troubled, I just put on my earphones and rock away. I sometimes even daydream of being a part of the band even though I can’t play a guitar, lols! They just make life bearable. Kudos to Taka for the straight up English lyrics. The Japanese had always been great musicians. Taka writing in English has simply brought that greatness even closer to non-Japanese speakers. I only became a fan this year through a certain Japanese movie and I feel like I could stay glued to them forever. ROCK ON, PEACE OUT!!!
