Yo!

Before we get all excited about January 19, 2016 my fellow fans and those wondering about the current ONE OK ROCK mania in Manila, lets take a look at the album that the tour is named after.

35XXXV Regular/Standard Edition
35XXXV Regular/Standard Edition

Released on February 11, 2015, 35XXXV is the band’s seventh full-length album and what made this album special is that this is the band’s first album which is recorded abroad. ONE OK ROCK worked alongside known music producer John Feldmann and Chris Lord-Alge for this album, which the band had expressed excitement over as they had dreamed of recording an album overseas and in the US.

The album has 13 tracks, sung in a mix of English and Japanese lyrics, and they are as follows:
– 35xxxv
– Take me to the Top
– Cry out
– Suddenly
– Mighty Long Fall
– Heartache
– Memories
– Decision
– Paper Planes (featuring Kellin Quinn of Sleeping with Sirens)
– Good Goodbye
– One by One
– Stuck in the Middle
– Fight the Night

Two of the album’s tracks – Mighty Long Fall and Heartache – had been the theme song for the last two installments of the Rurouni Kenshin live action movies Kyoto Inferno and Legend Ends respectively. Decision, on the other hand, was released as the theme song for the band’s documentary film FOOL COOL ROCK. This album also has a special edition with a DVD showing videos of the acoustic version of Mighty Long Fall and Decision.

To the short review:
Which song did I like in this album?
For me, I definitely liked Heartache and Mighty Long Fall. Heartache most especially! It completed the trinity starting from The Beginning. But i also did love the catchy tunes for Stuck in the Middle and One by One (Can’t wait to hear One by One live though. Reminds me of Ending Story??)

Any criticisms?
I have heard about the criticisms regarding this album especially the comment that it was too Americanized for most fans. I admit some tracks here were pretty much incomparable to JinseixBoku= which I love very much despite the English-Japanese lyrics. JinseixBoku= was perfectly executed, for this… well not by much. Regardless of that, it is still a good album to listen to, especially the hit tracks.

What are the odds this will be the tracklist for the 35xxxv Asia Tour?
Well, this has equal odds on being the main setlist for the Asia Tour primarily because the fans had heard this version first in comparison to the Deluxe version which catered to the American and European market. High chances that this will be the setlist is plausible because from tips from other fans, this was the version performed in the headline shows in the US.

Personal opinion?
I prefer this version better to be honest because the raw emotion of the songs, especially for Heartache, is just there. I also prefer this from the deluxe because while yes, you may not know the Japanese lyrics well, but you can easily get the jist of it. We’re seeing ONE OK ROCK differently with this version, a ONE OK ROCK that is now moving to their next frontier. Sure, I also love the tracks from the Deluxe, but nothing beats the original.

Where can you buy this album?
Aside from iTunes, you can purchase it through Amazon Japan, CDJapan, HMV Japan and YesAsia. You can also stream it in Spotify and Deezer. Apple Music doesnt have this from the last time I used the service.

  1. Americanized, yes I think I saw lots of comments like that as well. Partly…because it was produced by ‘the’ John Feldmann. I agree with you too, about this album bearing songs with raw emotions. I remember the first time I heard the English version of Heartache, it felt kilig lol but probably because I was excited and it’s something new. I still go back to the original version, though. My second language is English yet I prefer listening to this version. Listening to 35xxxv original version is like eating Chickenjoy, for me lol. I love how crispy it is on the outside and how juicy it is inside. Weird comparing it to food but that’s original 35xxxv for me. :)

    1. I just wish they introduced their music first with JinseixBoku= in the US since that’s practically the raw ONE OK ROCK we all love but alas, it is a new market and a new era for ONE OK ROCK. While 35XXXV is good, it is still something to get used to considering the new scheme they applied for this. JinseixBoku=? hands down its one of their best “mostly English” album.

Wait for my review on the Deluxe since my sentiments on it is there :))

      1. But really 35xxxv is for the US market. Although they already have fans before the said album was released in the US I think the kind of sound 35xxxv has will be more acceptable there. Though I was hoping they’d have english versions of other hit songs too. That’d be cool. And yes, JinseixBoku is their best.

        1. that is indeed true. hopefully some miracle occurs and they perform this edition rather than the Deluxe. If the deluxe would be considered, i prefer the Jap. version of The Way Back
