Konnichassuu!
It has been a long time since I blogged and considering that today is my big day, I might as well do a special one.
Yet again my big day is welcomed by another stupid typhoon, aka Noru or in Filipino Karding. This has happened oh so often lately with the most memorable one was during my first or second year in Taft. It has become an inside joke here in the house that my birthday, and that of my niece’s, whose birthday is on the 29th, is always typhoon week and well, it is true no thanks to global warming.
Back to Noru, the experience was not as miserable as Vamco 2 years ago (was it two years ago? I forgot). The winds and rain were on and off and it changes intensity ever so often. The electricity also got cut off after tripping twice and it lasted for at least 5 hours before it came back. But, when it did come back, the flood water was slowly but surely creeping up.
We did get most of the stuff up before the power interruption. Then we got into overdrive to put up the others. Fortunately, we had ample time and was relaxing mostly once we noticed the water level increase was really slow.
The morning came and here is the pic from my backyard.
The water pretty much was still and only came up to our garage. We surmised that this is an effect of the nearby river overflowing since it is connected to one of the major dams in the region. If it was caused by the actual typhoon, we would have been submerged even inside the house.
The rest of the house? Minus the basement which is slightly flooded because its elevation, the place was dry and we even had electricity, internet and water. Considering I was awake all night, I did sleep most of the morning after speaking to my aunt and my sister. Woke up around the afternoon and the water slightly receded but it was still there.
Throughout the night, I mostly kept up with my relatives in the US and also help with the chores. And slowly cleaning my room because some of the stuff we put up are in my newly repainted room.
Speaking of that… check the photo below
This is a part of my current setup. I had the room painted white and the table as well. I originally wanted varnish instead because it is a hardwood table custom-made for me. But, it was apparently more expensive and my mum thought it would look clean. It did look clean but it took 4 days before I was able to put stuff on in. Other than that? Well, I have a lot of room renovations to do in the next few months.
It was good that the paint job happened a week ago before the typhoon because it would have been hard for me to sleep and wait for the typhoon to leave if the extra room is also disassembled due to the potential flooding.
Some of the stuff in this photo came from my pandemic purchasing. The PS4, iMac and TV are old purchases. I am actually due to replace the iMac I have because its been almost 9 years since i had it. But, given the situation here at home, I decided to just get it next week. It has served me well and I’m replacing it with its updated brother in green. I have my reasons. Hahaha.
Anywho, what would I do for the rest of the day? it will be a subdued one coz of all the cleaning but I did plan for a simple dinner with the family. The real celebration will happen next week. Hehehe.
My 30 and 31st passed by like nothing because of COVID and there’s nothing much to write about except my random purchases and family events. I mostly just worked and discovered my passion in writing. Speaking of writing, I am in the process of still writing Interscape in a notebook. Work and admittedly some distractions in life made the progress slow but I will hopefully get it done soon. Just waiting for the new mac so I can type with earnest.
Also did a lot of Genshin. Tomorrow will be the big 3.1 update and I cannot wait to pull for my favorite Vtuber’s character in the game. Also next story quest! Will take my time in this because I think I only finished 3.0 in a week. Hahahaha!
Wishes this year? Hmmm. Hopefully I will be able to travel again. My sister has been planning all sorts of trips for us next year. Japan is finally opening in a few days and Taiwan is also visa-free again. I may do some regional trips first before I go for Canada so when I get back, the US Visa will be a cinch to get. Aside from traveling, the usual wishes apply. Good health, safety and more money! Hahaha! If I have other wishes, I will keep that to myself.
For now, here’s to another torrential year! May it not catch me offguard and throw me overboard. May it also give me a boatload of blessings.
Next post will be some goods haul. It is in Manila now at the time of writing. I can’t wait to share the photos!
